Hiking in Grand Gulch

Utah Canyon Explorer

Dates: June 7-16, 2024

Recommended Ages: 14-18

Tuition: $3000

Trip departure: Salt Lake City, Utah

This extended trip is perfect for returning travelers, or those looking for a more wilderness-centered experience. We’ll backpack the crown jewel of Utah canyons- Grand Gulch. With its rugged terrain and numerous ruins tucked within its myriad side canyons, Grand Gulch remains one of our all-time favorites.

Day 1

Your trip begins in Salt Lake City, where we’ll pick you up at the airport. Then it’s up Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch for our first camp.

Day 2

Rock climbing in the high country is the ultimate. You’ll learn basic knots and rope skills, as well as challenge yourself on Cottonwood’s quartzite.

Days 3-4

We’ll head south for whitewater on the famed Westwater Canyon section of the Colorado River. This is a longer day with bigger water than the typical Moab daily run.

Days 5-8

Following our rafting trip, we’ll gear up and head south to begin our backpacking trip. The magic of these canyons has to be experienced to be believed. Ancient ruins are more plentiful than water in this slickrock wonderland.

Days 9-10

The trip comes to an end with dinner in Moab, and then our return to Salt Lake City. We’re certain you’ll return home from this one with a newfound love for wild places!
